Abstract
Taking advantage of the covariant nature of the Friedberg-Lee soliton model we construct quark-bag model states which are eigenstates of the total-momentum operators P/sup ..mu../, ..mu.. = 0,...,3. We use a relativistic generalization of the Peierls-Yoccoz projection technique. Both the quark field and the vacuum are simultaneously subjected to Lorentz boosts and projection. We derive a formula for the soliton rest mass M which has to be treated as a self-consistency problem. Finally the matrix elements of the Hamiltonian are given in terms of trial quark spinors and trial functions for the vacuum (sigma field). These are intended to provide a starting point for various practical calculations.
