Abstract
The gas and solid temperature profiles in a countercurrent char gasifier are obtained analytically. The key assumptions are a uniform rate of heat release in the combustion zone, linear dependence of the gasification rate on temperature, and constant solid and gas fluxes through the reactor. The model shows the operational limits of a countercurrent gasifier and completes the description of multiple steady states observed in more complicated models. It also indicates a zone near the reactor bottom where no stable combustion zone can be located. The proposed scheme can be used to estimate the effect of charges in the conditions of operation and as a guide for the analysis of more complicated models.
