Abstract
BS>The possibility of double conversion (energy of beta particles - light -- electric energy) in silicon photocells, luminophors with various spectra, and a radiation source in the form Sr/sup 90/ - Y/sup 90/ was studied. A total flux of beta-particles equal to 1.3 x 10/sup 9/ sec/sup -1/ incident on the silicon photocell produced a current of 1.54 mu a and the emf was equal to 138 mv, giving a conversion efficiency relative to the energy of radiation incident on the phosphor of 0.1%. The application of Pm/sup 147/ to the luminophor will increase the over-all efficiency of the converter to 1%. (C.J.G.)
