Abstract
This article covers operational nuclear power stations having a capacity greater than 50 MW(e) in the European Community. Discharges of radioactive gaseous and liquid effluents from these installations are given for the period 1974 to 1978, with values expressed both in absolute terms and normalized to net electricity production from the fuel. An assessment is then made of the exposure of members of the public resulting from the 1978 discharges. It is concluded that the exposure of members of the public from the 1978 discharges lies within the variations in exposure that result from natural background radiation.
