Abstract
This book is devoted to the understanding of strategic management in coal companies and has as its primary focus the examination of how coal is managed using the concept of adaptation. The main objectives of the study are: (1) to propose a comprehensive model of adaptation, building on existing concepts in the field; (2) to describe the managerial responses of select coal companies to challenges posed by a rapidly changing environment; (3) to explore whether the proposed model of adaptation can help describe the responses of these companies and to offer reasonable explanation for the distinctions in their responses; and (4) to examine implications of the study for management theory, management practice, and managing coal. The contents of the book are divided into 9 chapters arranged in 5 parts. (BLM)
