Abstract
A Si detector is exposed to 14.6-Mev neutrons, and (n,p) and (n, alpha ) reactions occur on the Si/sup 28/, Si/sup 29/, and Si/sup 30/ nuclei in the detector. It is noted that the isotopic abundances and cross sections render all the reactions negligible except Si/sup 28/(n, alpha )Mg/sup 25/. The k spectrum between 7 and 13 Mev from this reaction is shown and correlated to the energy levels of the residual Mg/sup 25/ nucleus. The cross sections for excitation of individual excited states of Mg/sup 25/ are discussed. It is noted that the Mg/ sup 25/ recoiling nucleus is detected by the Si detector with an efficiency equal to the alpha detection efficiency. (T.F.H.)
