This article describes and discusseshow relief and alleviation innursing is understood as a coreconcept in the nursing profession.Initially, a concept clarificationof key concepts in the nursingfield is presented. Secondly, methodsto conduct concept analyses,development and evaluation arepresented. Finally, a theoreticalanalysis and discussion of theconcepts of relief and alleviationin nursing are presented. It isconcluded that the concepts arerelatively unclear and immaturenursing professional concepts,which cannot be used in theory,research and practice withoutfurther clarification. The articledescribes the first part of a developmentproject on nursing concerningrelief. The project consistsof a theoretical concept clarificationfollowed by empiricalstudies among nurses and patientsto identify experiences regardingrelief and alleviation innursing.
