Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected to describe most aspects of legal abortion. In the qualitative part of the study, 14 women recruited through the Internet were interviewed about a legal abortion they had had at least one year before the interview. In the quantitative part of the study, all Danish women born in the year 1966 were studied, using register-based data to describe factors that may predispose women to legal abortion and, more important, to describe what physical and psychological consequences legal abortion may have. The results of the survey provide valuable information to all health personal who are involved with counselling or treatment in relation to legal abortion.
