Abstract
A thin film of poly(1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl methacrylate) was prepared by using spin coating technique and its UV absorption measurements were taken as a function of wavelength. The optical properties and dispersion parameters were reported in detail. Transmittance was increased depending on the increasing wavelength whereas the reflectance decreased. The refractive index at 700 nm was 1.36. The optical band gap (Eg) and the Urbach energy (EU) were calculated to be 2.74 and 0.94 eV, respectively. The type of electronic transitions for titled polymer was determined as indirect allowed transition. The single oscillator wavelength (λ0) and strength (So) were found to be 313.4 nm and 6.10 × 1012 m–2, respectively. The oscillator energy (E0) was 3.96 eV and the dispersion energy (Ed) was 2.37 eV. From the results obtained, it can be suggested that the poly(1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl methacrylate) is in the semiconductor class and may be a candidate material for the design of some electro-optic materials.
