Abstract
The specialties dealingwith emergency medicine and emergency surgery are at crossroads. There is a need for right directions, rationale plan, and reflective identity. Currently, trauma surgery has gradually evolved into Acute Care Surgery (ACS). Trauma care has seen neglect, attention, attenuation, and timely advances tact. Emergency General Surgery is an excellent target for quality improvement projects. Integrating emergency surgery and trauma surgery, a new subspecialty, ‘Acute Care Surgery’, emerged. Progressive perspective requires study of what is happening worldwide. Best education is excellent beginning. The ‘Halsted Training Model’ is all good, for all times. It needs to be expanded to meet the trauma and emergency surgery needs. We propose the ‘3SCs’ (Supervised capabilities, Scientific concepts, Skillful competency) model, for outstanding and unique patient care and academic training. This will ensure dedicated distinctiveness. With worldwide safety and peace measures bearing fruits, emergencies should take precedence and meet public’s expectance, with the essence of surgeon’s roles. The terminology use we are proposing is ‘Trauma and Emergency Surgery’, with advantages for the public, policy makers, and professionals.
