Abstract
Since perinatal mortality has remained stable over the past 20 years, preconception counselling (PCC) is moving ever more into the focus of attention in pregnancy care programs. An essential part of PCC includes reviewing vaccination status and possibly performing vaccinations. Given that there are different recommendations in different countries, vaccination status is often incomplete. Furthermore, the rising numbers of women with a migration background is an increasing challenge in daily practice. The prevention of diseases that can possibly be transmitted vertically to the unborn child (e.g. rubeola or varicella) form the focus of preconception vaccination counselling. Nevertheless, seasonal diseases such as influenza should be considered in PCC and vaccination against influenza should be recommended.
