Abstract
Purpose of Review: Increasing attention is being focused on improving access to surgical care worldwide. This article reviews current urologic and urogynecologic efforts in global surgery and opportunities for future impact.Recent Findings: Numerous global surgery organizations exist with focus on urologic and urogynecologic care. We provide an overview of these organizations, with focus on program goals, impact, and differences in program types (surgical care delivery, education, research, and advocacy).Summary: Given the significant interest in global health, the urologic and urogynecologic communities are well-positioned to help improve surgical infrastructure in LMIC and for the 5 billion people lacking access to surgical, obstetric, trauma, and anesthesia care. There are diverse opportunities for involvement across a variety of program types, including clinical care, research, advocacy, and education. These diverse efforts are necessary to develop and implement sustainable outreach programs with significant impact.
