Abstract
The dynamics of the development of large-scale plasma instabilities arising at a skin explosion of a cylindrical copper conductors in a fast-rising strong magnetic field with an induction up to 400 T was studied. The experiment was carried out on a high-current MIG generator at a current of amplitude up to 2.5 MA and rise time 100 ns. The radial distribution of the exploded conductor material and the internal structure of the instabilities were derived from X-ray backlighting images obtained with the X-rays emitted from the “hot spot” of a Х-pinch. The experimental data obtained can be used to verify one- and two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic models of the behavior of matter under extreme conditions.
