Abstract
Erythromelalgia (EM) is a condition which presents with relapsing attacks of severe erythema, overheating, burning pain, and diffuse swelling of the skin, predominantly on the extremities. A distinction is made between a primary (associated with a mutation in the SCN9A gene) and a secondary form (associated with a variety of underlying diseases) of EM. The diagnosis is made clinically. Since erythromelalgia is a very rare disease, there is currently no established therapy available. We tried numerous therapeutic approaches in our patient, but unfortunately without lasting success.
