Abstract
Erwinia amylovora, the cause of fireblight, has not been detected in Australia. However, pressures to permit imports of pomefruit from overseas could result in the introduction of the causal pathogen. A study was therefore made to assess the vulnerability of pome fruits to the disease at Orange, New South Wales, with a set of criteria based on published models and weather data. An average of 6.2 potential fireblight infection days per season occurred over the 12 year period examined. The implications of these findings are discussed.
