Abstract
Introduction: Breast cancer (BC) is one of the common diseases with higher cancer death in women. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays an important role in proliferation, migration and the formation of new blood vessels as an angiogenesis factor. VEGF polymorphisms are associated with the increased risk of BC in previous studies.Materials and methods: In this study, we investigate VEGF-634G > C (rs2010963) gene polymorphism with the BC susceptibility in the northwest of Iran. This study was performed on 132 healthy individuals and 133 women with BC. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood by salting out method, and genotypes were determined by the restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR–RFLP) method. The data were analyzed by SPSS software version 25 by using Chi-square test. Results: The frequency of GG, GC and CC genotypes in the patient group were 22.55%, 30.09%, and 47.36% and in the control group 37.87%, 28.03%, and 34.10%, respectively. There was a significant difference in the frequency of CC genotype in patient with BC in compared with control group (P = 0.004).Conclusion: This study indicated that VEGF -634G > C gene polymorphism can be considered as a useful biomarker for diagnoses of BC.
