Abstract
This study investigated relationships between subjective intensity of work, job stress and self-reported musculoskeletal symptoms in an automobile assembly plant. A survey using a questionnaire was conducted on 473 male workers who subjectively estimated the intensity of their work. Karasek’s job strain model was used to evaluate job stress and the MSD classification questionnaire by NIOSH was also included in the survey to categorize workers into different MSD groups. The result showed that subjective intensity of work has closely related with job stress and with MSD as well. It was also found that workers who show symptoms of MSD group were under a lot of job stress. This study is expected to show a direction for strategy of health management intervention programs in automobile industry.
