Age of information (AoI) has been proposed as a new timeliness metric to quantify information freshness. This paper studies the threshold-based age-dependent random access (TB-ADRA) which jointly consider the AoI threshold and the active probability. Specifically, each internet-of-things (IoT) device will be activated with a fixed probability when instantaneous AoI exceeds a certain threshold. Based on the analytical model on the average AoI, we numerically search for the optimal threshold that minimizes the average AoI. Simulation results indicate that utilizing the optimal threshold significantly improves the information freshness.
