Abstract
A mixed modal discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method has been developed as a computational method to solve non-Newtonian implicit constitutive models of compressible rarefied and microscale gas flows. The method was extended from the gas flow around a cylinder to more complicated problems of compressible rarefied and microscale gas flows around airfoils. The main emphasis is placed on how the DG method predicts the aerodynamic characteristics in comparison with the classical Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations. It was observed that the NCCR and NSF results are in close agreement in case of near thermal equilibrium gases. However, an interesting phenomenon, the recompression near the trailing edge in case of high Knudsen number flows, was observed in the NCCR solutions.
