Integrating Soil Information System with Agro-environmental Application in Taiwan

Abstract
Soil survey of rural, hill land, and mountain areas in Taiwan has been fully performed sice 1950s for giving great contribution on a national soil database and good interpretation on soil management, fertilizer recommendation, and environmental quality. The soil data have been corrected with Soil Taxonomy. According to the soil information system, item mapping for crop production and soil liquefaction potential, rationalized fertilization, risking mapping for food safety, and site specific nutrient management were applied for the agro-environment. However, we are facing to develop new strategies of soil survery in contamination prevention, land use change, and soil education for the future.
