본 연구는 일본의 애니메이션 〈은하철도 999(Galaxy Express 999)〉를 니체(Friedrich Nietzsche)의 〈차라투스트라는 이렇게 말했다(Also sprach Zarathustra)〉속 “정신의 세 변화”의 관점을 통해 분석하였다. 니체는 전통의 가치에 대한 무비판적인 순응과 복종에 반기를 들었다. 또한 의심과 비판을 통해 모순된 사상을 몰락시킴으로써 정신의 새로운 창조와 발전이 가능하다고 하였다. 이는 모성애와 기계문명을 전적으로 신뢰하는 주인공 데츠로가 여정을 통해 정신이 변화되고, 그 변화된 정신이 실천으로 발현된다는 점에서 니체의 사유는 작품을 분석하는 유용한 패러다임이 된다. 연구결과 기계의 몸으로 상징되는 기존의 절대가치를 맹목적으로 신뢰하던 낙타의 정신을 가진 데츠로는 여정을 통해 기존의 가치에 대한 불완전함과 한계를 깨닫고 이를 파괴하는 사자의 정신을 실천한다. 나아가 기계의 몸이라는 허상의 인식을 통해 인간적인 것의 소중함을 깨달은 데츠로는 어린아이의 정신으로 변화함과 동시에 지구로 복귀하여 새 출발을 시작한다. 본 연구는 첨단기술과 자본에 대한 끝없는 욕망 속에서 이 작품을 통해 진정한 행복에 대해 다시 생각해 보는 계기를 마련함과 동시에, 여전히 낙타의 정신에 머물러 있는 많은 현대인의 정신의 변화를 촉구하는 니체의 외침을 발견할 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 또한 기술문명에 대한 인간성 회복을 테마로 하는 다양한 문화예술 콘텐츠를 분석함에 있어 니체의 사유가 유용한 도구가 될 수 있다는 가능성을 제시했다는 점에서 본 연구의 성과가 있다.
This research analyzed the Japanese animation 〈Galaxy Express 999)〉 through the perspective of Friedrich Nietzsche illustrated by “Three metamorphoses of the Spirit” in his 〈Also sprach Zarathustra〉. Nietzsche rebelled against the uncritical conformity and obedience towards the values of tradition. He also stated that demolishing contradictory ideas through doubts and criticisms can create and develop the spirit. The way Tetsuro, faithful in maternal love and industrialized civilization, changes his mind through his journey and expresses it shows how Nietzsche’s reason becomes a useful paradigm for analyzing the Results of the research show that Tetsuro, who originally held the spirit of the Camel which blindly believes in the existing values portrayed by machines, goes through his journey and finds out the imperfection and limits of the existing values, thus practicing the spirit of the Lion which destroys them. Furthermore, after realizing the importance of the humane virtues through recognizing the delusion of machine bodies, Tetsuro’s spirit transitions into that of a Child and simultaneously returns to Earth for a new start. This research has its meaning in how it at the same time provides a motive to think about what true happiness is in the midst of advanced technology and endless desire and discovers Nietzsche’s cry for change of spirit of the modern people, whose spirit still resides within that of a Camel. In addition, this research had a positive outcome by showing that Nietzsche’s reason could be a valuable tool in analyzing various culture and art content that have their theme as the recovery of humanity in the industrialized civilization.
