Abstract
The LATITUDE® Patient Management system allows to remotely follow. Boston Scientific ICD and CRT-D devices, accessing a website where the device interrogation info is displayed. Boston Scientific has developed a software to send the recorded data to the Center in charge of the patient, creating .HL7 files into a local directory. The 3 .HL7 files are structured according to the HL7 2.3.1 Observation Result Unsolicited message type, which provides for the transmission of informations in the form of a lab report document. Each .HL7 file contains a Message Header, a Patient Identification segment, and four Observation Reports sections (last interrogation, implant, lead test, lead information), each one having several Observation Results segments containing the parameters, that include lead status, device set up, arrhytmic events and stimulation statistics details. We developed a procedure to retrieve data from the .HL7 files and to put them into our EMR system using FileMaker Pro. The integration procedure is fully automated: it imports raw data, reconstructs the original message text and grabs each parameter by parsing the reconstructed text; finally the parameters are sent into the EMR systemWeʼve tested the above mentioned procedure with our Centerʼs data, processing a total of 65 transmission files. The procedure worked flawlessly; we report 3 issues, minor:– data import must be set to Unicode, else special characters like accented letters or apostrophes are not passed correctly– date fields calculations need to be adjusted for the presence of the datum, else an error is returned– the threshold measure units are always passed even if no measurement has been recorded. In conclusion our software allows to correctly retrieve data from the LATITUDE® Patient Management system, and to store them in an EMR system, thus enabling doctors to see the transmitted info within other patientʼs data
