Abstract
SUMMARY: : Spatio-temporal variation in the degree of melanisation is often considered in the context of thermal adaptation. The authors tested various predictions of the thermal melanism hypothesis in a series of complementary laboratory experiments to identify the causal selective factors affecting morph induction, which often remain ambiguous in among-population comparisons due environmental covariances.(Figure is included in full-text article.)
