Abstract
Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 2002, Vol 47(2), 140–142. Reviews Feldman, Konold, and Coulterʼs 2000 (see record 2000-07040-000) book that provides content and ideas for everyone who wonders how the Internet can enhance education in our nationʼs schools. It is of particular interest to those concerned about science learning in elementary and secondary classrooms. The book provides an excellent history of the origins of these applications of the Internet in science education. In addition to providing historical perspective on the development of the Internet as a technology that facilitates classroom science study, the book also contains outstanding commentaries and critiques about reflective discourse and data analysis in student learning. Unfortunately, the bookʼs title may be considered misleading to some, for the words “network science” imply a work that is comprehensive in its review of the field. In reality, this is a study that is heavily oriented toward one domain within the field of network science–that of collaborative projects. The book contains many collaborative and real-time data projects that serve as the basis for the bookʼs generalizations. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
