The authors conclude with some brief reflections on kinship diplomacy in the Hellenistic world—the mediation of Greek interstate diplomacy through real or mythological ‘kinship’ between civic communities—with a particular focus on the ‘reactivating’ of such links during the various geopolitical crises of the early second century BC. The new decree of Abdera for the Teians is set firmly in its immediate historical context, as a characteristic witness to the distinctive world-view of the cities of the Greek world in the 160s BC.
