Abstract
This chapter highlights the importance of medical adherence in the context of well-being and recovery after COVID-19. It explores strategies to enhance clients’ motivation and improve their adherence to medical recommendations, and addresses common barriers to treatment engagement. Adherence to medical and rehabilitation recommendations can improve clients’ daily functioning, reduce disability, and help them return to a more independent and satisfying life. The chapter considers the barriers to adherence, which include mood and anxiety issues, low motivation, ambivalence, practical barriers, cognitive difficulties, treatment dissatisfaction, and misconceptions about COVID-19. Other topics discussed are how to prepare for medical appointments and telehealth visits. Home practice of the strategies is encouraged to implement skills and experience change in anxiety and depression symptoms.
