American, 20th–21st century, male. Born 22 July 1955. Graphic designer, writer, photographer, teacher. Artists’ books. Warren Lehrer received his BA degree in fine arts from Queens College and an MFA from Yale University. Writing and bookmaking, the combination of words and images, were central to his practice throughout his career. He is best known for his books made in the 1980s, which featured experimental design and typography to express multiple narrative voices, in what he often referred to as ‘plays’ or ‘theatre’.
