Abstract
Spanish, 20th century, male. Born 1940, in Barcelona. Painter, engraver. Miquel Vila studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi in Barcelona. The universe that Vila created is utterly strange; more metaphysical than Surrealist, his works evoke solitude, frozen spaces, openings leading nowhere, abandonment. Everyday objects, severed trees and posts all seem like so many cabalistic signs marking out the ground in places that, while commonplace, nevertheless appear strange and alien.
