Flemish School, 17th century, male. Born 1587 or 1588, in Alkmaar; died, in Ypres (West Flanders). Painter. Jan van den Bergh was the son of a schoolteacher. He studied under H. Goltzius in Haarlem, and Rubens encouraged him to make the most of his artistic gifts. He later settled in Ypres, and was the father of Matthys van den Bergh....
