Abstract
French, 18th century, male. Born 1 August 1719, in Paris; died 10 July 1809, in Paris. Painter, draughtsman. Jacques Augustin de Silvestre was the son and pupil of Nicolas Charles de Silvestre. He visited Italy and stayed in Rome for three years copying the great masterpieces he found there in abundance. He took over his father's position as drawing master to the king's children.
