American, 19th – 20th century, male. Born 17 November 1866, in Genesco (Illinois); died 1940. Painter, engraver, illustrator. Leon Alaric Shafer studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was a member of the American Federation of Arts. He illustrated many war books.
