Italian, 15th century, male. Born September 1439, in Siena; died January 1502, in Siena. Painter, sculptor, architect, illuminator, engineer. Sienese School. Francesco di Giorgio Martini worked as a sculptor, painter and above all as an architect and civil and military engineer. He was active throughout Italy in the second half of the 15th century, and was influential primarily through his built architecture and fortifications, especially those in Urbino, and his writings on architecture, which were studied by Leonardo da Vinci....
