Abstract
French, 18th century, male. Born c. 1710, in Paris; died c. 1771, in Paris. Draughtsman, engraver. Landscapes, landscapes with figures. Le Blanc claims that Jean Chatelain was born in London. He was a soldier and fought in Flanders as an officer, but his interest in the arts led him to abandon a military career. Chatelain's talent lay in landscapes, and he reproduced the work of such masters as H. Robert, Caresme and Ricci. He also engraved numerous English scenes and produced extremely interesting drawings....
