French, 18th century, male. Born c. 1710, in Paris; died c. 1771, in Paris. Draughtsman, engraver. Landscapes, landscapes with figures. Le Blanc claims that Jean Chatelain was born in London. He was a soldier and fought in Flanders as an officer, but his interest in the arts led him to abandon a military career. Chatelain's talent lay in landscapes, and he reproduced the work of such masters as H. Robert, Caresme and Ricci.
