Abstract
Italian, 15th – 16th century, male. Active from 1502 to 1512. Born towards the end of the 15th century, in Brescia. Painter, engraver. Giovanni Maria da Brescia began his professional career as a goldsmith, and studied painting and engraving. He became a Carmelite monk in Brescia and worked for the monastic church. At the monastery, he did frescoes on subjects depicting episodes from the story of Elijah and Elisha. His plates reveal the influence of Marcantonio Raimondi and Andrea Mantegna.
