American, 19th century, male. Active in France. Born 1826, in Boston (Massachusetts); died 1899, in Bois-d'Arcy (Yvelines), France. Painter. Landscapes. Barbizon School. After spending a period in the studio of Thomas Couture in Paris, William P. Babcock went to join Millet in Barbizon in 1847 and became a friend of his.
