Abstract
(b Furness, 1448; d Hackney, March 24, 1522). English cleric, lawyer, diplomat, patron, and collector. Educated probably at Cambridge and subsequently recorded at Oxford, he became chaplain to Margaret Beaufort c. 1482, and later her executor, and c. 1484 was chaplain to her son, the future Henry VII. Urswick became Dean of Windsor on 20 November 1495, and under his direction parts of the deanery and of St George’s Chapel were rebuilt (see Windsor Castle, §2). His arms appear in a boss in St George’s; he is depicted in a stained-glass window at the entrance to the Albert Memorial Chapel (1350–54) at Windsor Castle, and there are inscriptions requesting prayers for his soul on a stone screen formerly in the Urswick Chapel (ded. 1507) of St George’s.
