Abstract
The aim of this thesis was to find evidence and to determine the presence of Malassezia sp. in atopic canine patients (CAD) through microscopic observation of cytologies, swabs and stained Scotch tape technique using Diff-Quick. These samples were taken from five body regions: interdigital spaces of the pelvic and thoracic limbs, commissures of the lips, perineum, right and left ears, and axillas. The sample was 80 dogs with CAD exanimated in 16 veterinary care centers the overgrowth of Malassezia sp. in dogs of the metropolitan area were 66,25% and in the valleys 33,75%; In terms of presence by body areas we obtained: lips 28.75%, perineum 30%, armpits 30%, left ear 60%, right ear 57.5%; 36.25%, left pelvic limb 37.5%, right thoracic limb 41.25% and left thoracic limb 35%. Statistical analysis was used x²-test to see the dependence between the variables and it was found that no variable is dependent (sex, age, place where the patient lives or race).
