Abstract
Pharmacodynamics refers to the study of relationships between drug concentrations and pharmacological effects. The mathematical description of these relationships, through the use of appropriate pharmacodynamic models, facilitates the characterization and comparison of candidate drugs, facilitates the rational selection of appropriate dosing regimens, and assists in the investigation and identification of the mechanisms associated with drug action. This article provides an overview and a catalog of mathematical models that may be employed to characterize drug pharmacodynamics.
