Abstract
This chapter describes the anatomy, function, and common conditions affecting the oesophagus. The symptoms of globus, feeling of something in the throat, and their relation to gastro-oesophageal reflux and laryngopharyngeal reflux are discussed. Neurological conditions, along with achalasia and pharyngeal pouch, are explored. The staging and treatment of oesophageal malignancies are outlined.
