Abstract
The anaesthetic considerations for the patient presenting for coronary artery bypass graft surgery are continuously evolving. Anaesthesiologists need to be familiar with advances in pharmacological risk reduction, new surgical techniques, and new monitoring modalities in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Furthermore, many of the reportable quality metrics may be influenced by anaesthetic technique. This chapter reviews monitoring modalities for coronary artery bypass graft surgery, induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia, important considerations involved in initiation and weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass, as well as implications of quality metrics for coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
