Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore what abilities are being pursued through Buddhist boy of Buddhism which has been a lamp of human life for over 2500 years, suggest the implications of its competencies of future society those abilities in the changing trend of times and the educational responses. In order to do this, we first examine the meaning of Buddhist boy and ascetic practices of sudhana within 「Gandavyuha-Sutra(入法界品)」of 『Avataṃsaka Sūtra(華嚴經)』, we looked at the perspective of UNESCO, OECD, the American Psychological Association, and Korea suggest in relation to education competencies required for a future society. The competencies of sudhana is as follows. First, one s first mind, the second is practice in the daily, third, dedication without attachment, fourth is the good actions. Based on this, we have confirmed that they emphasize in common that the ascetic practices of sudhana and competency concept of the rest is knowledge especially practical knowledge competency and reflection on oneself, that is, meta-cognitive competency. In addition, it was suggested that competencies should be included as a implication that the sudhana in the future society showed goal set-up such as one s first mind, a shared life with the community such as dedication, a effort, a preception of equality. This approach is a small attempt to assess whether the teachings of Buddhism can be sustained as a meaningful religion in human life, even in uncertain future society that is unpredictable.
