Abstract
Human rights management refers to management that values human dignity and values in all activities of global companies beyond management strategies for sustainable growth, such as corporate social responsibility and social value creation. In particular, creating social value for shipping companies, which play a crucial role in the global logistics chain based on ships, is recognized as an essential management principle in the international community as both a management strategy and a survival strategy. Based on the neo-institutional theory, this study explores the level of implementation of human rights management in Korean shipping companies from various angles by analyzing the legal meaning and necessity of human rights management, the valid reason for human rights management, and the correlation between existing management methods and human rights management. This study is meaningful in that it reorganized significant domestic and international issues on seafarers' human rights, laid the basis for introducing human rights implementation principles for shipping companies, and structured them to harmonize within the existing onboard safety management system.
