Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of 12 weeks of hypoxic circuit training on body composition, cardiometabolic biomarkers, physical fitness, and isokinetic muscle function in sarcopenic obese older women. Thirty sarcopenic obese older women participated in this study, including control, normoxic circuit training, and hypoxic circuits. Both groups performed circular exercise three times a week for 12 weeks, with exercise intensity of 60% of heart rate reserve. Hypoxic conditions were set to 3,000m. The results showed that body composition and cardiometabolic biomarkers were positive effect on both normoxic and hypoxic circuit training groups. Hand grip strength and isokinetic muscle function were significantly increased in both exercise groups, whereas maximal oxygen uptake was only increased in the hypoxic circuit training group. Taken together, the results of this study suggest that 12 weeks of hypoxic circular exercise improves body composition, cardiometabolic biomarkers, fitness, and isokinetic muscle function in sarcopenic obese older women.
