We analyzed the status of legally protected species and specially designated species by various government departments for the protection of biodiversity and use of biological resources in Korea. These protected species can be classified into protected species, endemic species, subject to the approval of outbound transfer, harmful species, Permission to act, and Specially designated species. The status of designation of each legally designated species is as follows.
