(연구배경 및 목적) 코로나 팬데믹 시대에 직면한 현대인의 공간 인식이 변화하고 있다. 사회적 거리두기와 자가격리 등으로 외부환경과 단절되어 자신만의 공간에서 오랫동안 머무르다 보니 코로나 블루를 넘어 코로나 레드가 사회현상으로 진행 중이며, 그 심리적 해결책으로 도시 현대인들의 공간계획에 있어 자연과의 접근성이 강조되고 있다. 이에 바이오필릭 디자인(Biophilic Design)의 원칙을 건축환경에 적용하고 명확하게 표현한 선구자로 인정받고 있는 Stephen R. Kellert의 바이오필릭 디자인은 코로나 사태를 극복할 수 있는 공간적 대안이 되고 있다. 현재 바이오필릭 디자인의 실천과 적용은 다양한 접근 방법으로 활성화되고 있는데, 바이오필릭 디자인의 근거가 되는 이해의 기준이 필요하다. 또한 일회성이 아닌 지속 가능한 공간으로의 생태적 연결이 되어야 한다. 바이오필릭 공간의 이해와 실천이 도시의 현대공간에 적극 활용됨에 있어 바이오필릭 오브제(Biophilic Objet)로서 공간의 방향성을 제시하고자 한다. 이에 본 연구는 바이오필릭 디자인의 특성과 요소들이 바이오필릭 오브제로서 공간에 적용될 때 나타나는 공간의 가치와 자연과 인간을 연결하는 공간의 의미 향상에 목적을 둔다. (연구방법) 첫째, 공간개념과 자연에 대한 미학적 개념을 이론적으로 고찰하고, 바이오필리아 이론을 바탕으로 한 Kellert의 바이오필릭 디자인을 이해한다. 둘째, 바이오필릭 디자인이 오브제로서 의미 확장되는 전개과정을 통해 공간에서 바이오필릭 오브제 특성을 도출한다. 마지막으로 도출된 오브제 특성을 분석 틀로 만든 후 ILFI가 2017년부터 2021년까지 수여한 Stephen R. Kellert Biophilic Design Award 작품을 중심으로 분석한다. (결과) 바이오필릭 공간의 오브제 특성은 첫째, 생태적 오브제 특성으로 친자연적 향상성, 공간 경험의 매개성을 보인다. 이는 친환경, 순환, 환원 그리고 개방, 연결, 상호침투, 유동으로 나타난다. 둘째, 미학적 오브제 특성은 생태적 심미성과 픽쳐레스크적 주목성으로 융화, 조화, 구상 그리고 경관, 정체성, 상징, 차경으로 나타났다. 셋째, 심리적 오브제 특성은 치유적 심상성과 인지적 현상성으로 교감, 전이, 치환 그리고 유기성, 영속, 지각으로 분석결과를 확인할 수 있었다. (결론) 바이오필릭 공간에 나타난 오브제는 인간과 자연을 연결, 재현, 회복시키는 공간으로 자연스럽게 연결되는 매개체이자 자연 그 자체가 되기도 한다. 공간에서 바이오필릭 오브제의 적용은 공간에 대한 정확한 이해와 해석으로 자연과 연결된 지속 가능한 공간으로서 그 가치와 의미를 지향해야 한다.
(Background and Purpose) The space perception of modern people in the corona pandemic is changing. Due to social distancing and self-isolation as disconnected from the external environment and stayed in their own space for a long time, Corona Red is progressing as a social phenomenon beyond Corona Blue. As a psychological solution, access to nature is emphasized in urban modern people's spatial planning. Stephen R. Kellert's Biophilic design, recognized as a pioneer who applied the principles of Biophilic design to the architectural environment and clearly expressed, is becoming a spatial alternative to overcome the corona crisis. Currently, the practice and application of Biophilic design is being activated through various approaches, thus criteria for understanding Biophilic design are needed. Also It should be an ecological connection as a sustainable space rather than a one-off. As the understanding and practice of Biophilic space is actively utilized in the modern space of the city, intending to present the direction of space as a Biophilic objet. Therefore, this study aims to improve the value of space that appears when the characteristics and elements of Biophilic design are applied to space as a Biophilic object and the meaning of space that connects nature and humans. (Method) First, it theoretically examines the spatial concept and the aesthetic concept of nature, and understands Kellert's Biophilic design based on the biophilia theory. Second, Biophilic design derives the characteristics of a biophilic object in space through the process of expanding its meaning as an object. Finally, After making the derived object characteristics into an analysis framework, focusing on the Stephen R. Kellert Biophilic Design Award works awarded by ILFI from 2017 to 2021. (Results) The object characteristics of Biophilic space are: First, the characteristics of ecological objects show pro-natural improvement and mediation of spatial experience and it appears as eco-friendly, circulation, reduction and openness, connection, interpenetration, and flow. Second, aesthetic objects were characterized by ecological aesthetics and pictureless attention, as harmonization, harmony, conception, and landscape, identity, symbolism, and sub-view. Third, The characteristics of psychological objects were confirmed by the results of analysis of sympathy, transfer, substitution, organicity, permanence, and perceptuality as healing imagery and cognitive phenomenon. (Conclusions) The objects appearing in the Biophilic space become both a medium that naturally connects to a space that connects, reproduces, and restores humans and nature, as well as nature itself. The application of Biophilic objects in space should aim for its value and meaning as a sustainable space connected to nature through an accurate understanding and interpretation of the space.
