Abstract
This study has attempted to analyses the correspondences of Modern Chinese and Sino-Japanese through Chinese characters from Japanese Joyokanji Table(2010), which correspond to the syllable (C)o and (C)oV in Modern Chinese. 1.Correspondences between Syllable (C)o in Modern Chinese and Sino-Japanese shown as 25characters 28sounds. The main correspondences can be found that they are from entering tone of Ancient Chinese. Concretely, the correspondence “(C)o:ak”(9sounds) and “(C)o:ok”(3sounds) among rhymes of entering tone with stop coda -k, “(C)o:ot”(2sounds) and “(C)o:ut”(1sound) among rhymes of entering tone with stop coda -t. 2.Correspondences between Syllable (C)oV in Modern Chinese and Sino-Japanese shown as 55characters 65sounds. The correspondence “(C)ou:ou”(26sounds), “(C)ou:juu”(17sounds), “(C)ou:ju”(8sounds) can be seen as the main correspondences between syllable (C)oV in Modern Chinese and Sino-Japanese. Japanese Joyokanji correspond to the syllable (C)oV almost from rhyme-Hou(侯) and rhyme-You(尤). Rhyme-Hou(侯) appear as “ou” both in Modern Chinese and Sino-Japanese. On the other hand, Rhyme-You(尤) appear as “ou” in Modern Chinese but -juu type or -ju type in Sino-Japanese.
