Abstract
This study was carried out to elucidate the effects of parity, sex ratio, furrowing year, furrowing season and sire age on the incidences of stillbirth and mortality for the enhanced productivity of swine. The data from 1,052 litters furrowed from 1988 to 1990 at K Swine Br~ding Farm in Young Kwang, Chonnam were statistically; analysed by least squares method and the results obtained are as follows; 1) 1n the effect of parity on the incidence of stillbirth, as the panty became higher, the incidence was increased in Yorkshire, Duroc and crossbred, but decreased in Hampshire(P$lt;0.05). In Duroc, piglet mortality was not significantly different until the 7th parity and then increased significantly over 8th(P$lt;0.05). 2) Piglet stillbirth was significant difference for more male litters in Duroc(P$lt;0.05). Piglet mortality was greater for more male litters in the Yorkshire, Landrace and Dr.rroc(P$lt;0.05). 3) In the effect of furrowing year. Yorkshire, Hampshire and crossbred were significant differences in piglet stillbirth(P$lt;0.05). There were significant differences in the piglet mortality in Landrace, Hampshire and Crossbred(P$lt;0.05). 4) In the effect of furrowing season, the piglet stillbirth of Yorkshire, Duroc and crossbred were highest in spring(P$lt;0.05). On the other hand, Piglet mortality were lowest in the winter-bom piglets in Landrace and the spring-bom piglets in Duroc(P$lt;0.05). 5) The incidence of stillbirth was higher with sires under 12 months of age, and decreased as sire age increased in breeds such as Duroc and Yorkshire. On the other band, the incidence was lower with sires under 12 months of age and increased with sire age in Landrace and Hampshire (p$lt;0.05). The mortality of piglets showed significant difference in Yorkshire and Duroc by sire age(P$lt;0.05).
