이 논문의 목적은 김현승 시인의 시 세계를 공간을 통해 새롭게 읽어보고자 하는 데 있다. 주로 시인과 관련한 전기적 배경들이 김현승 시 세계에 대한 연구와 비평 작업에 녹아들어 텍스트 내적 구조와 특질에 대한 탐구가 충분히 조명되지 못했다는 문제의식을 기반으로, 본고는 김현승의 시 작품을 공간이라는 코드를 통해 읽어봄으로써 시 세계 전체를 관통하는 시적 원리를 구명하고 아직 조명되지 못한 시 의식의 새로운 면모를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 김현승 시의 시적 공간을 상/하의 이항 대립적 대극 공간으로 분절하고 상/하의 각 공간에 배치된 이미지나 사물 역시 공간적 자질로 변환하여, 이를 대립과 차이의 측면에서 분석하였다. 상방과 하방의 이항 대립적 구조는 하방성을 부정하고 상방으로 향해가려는 김현승 시인의 의식의 지향을 드러내고 있는데, 이러한 상방과 하방의 이원적 대립구조는 점차 균열을 일으키며 변이태를 만들어내면서 상/하의 공간은 질적 변화를 일으키게 된다. 특히 이러한 변화는 부정적 <하>공간에 상방의 가치와 질서가 도래하는 과정을 보여줌으로써 드러나는데 이로써 하방의 공간에서 상방의 가치를 찾아가는 방향으로 상/하의 공간은 통합을 이루어 나간다. 이러한 상-하 간의 통합은 궁극적으로 시(노래)를 쓰는 일을 통해 이루어진다. 결국 김현승 시인에게서 시를 쓰는 일은, 이웃에 대한 연민과 사랑을 기반으로 이루어진다는 점에서, 궁극적으로 김현승 시인의 대사회적 책무와 시인으로서의 심미적 이상이 시인으로서의 소명 의식으로 구체화되어 드러난 것으로 볼 수 있다.
This paper attempted to shed light on new aspects of the poetic consciousness, which has not yet been illuminated, by examining the poetic principles that penetrate his poetry through space. To this end, the space of Kim Hyeon-seung was divided into upper and lower spaces, and images or objects arranged in each space were also converted into spatial codes, and these codes were also analyzed in terms of confrontation and difference. In the upper and lower confrontation structures, the poet's inner consciousness reveals his tendency to deny the space below while trying to fly to the upper space. However, this adversarial structure gradually cracks and is deformed, and the properties of the upper and lower spaces also change qualitatively. In particular, the change in the lower space is remarkable, and the lower space comes to the sacred space where negative attributes have been removed. As a result, the lower space comes to have the characteristics of the upper space, and the upper space and the lower space are gradually integrated. And this integrated space has significance as a new polysemantic space with both upper and lower characteristics.
