Abstract
The global population continues to expand, driving an ever-increasing demand for food production. Concurrently, rural areas are grappling with a shrinking labor force and rising production costs, underscoring the imperative for innovative approaches to food cultivation. Smart farming emerges as a transformative concept poised to address contemporary agricultural challenges. Leveraging sensor technologies and related innovations, smart farming encompasses three key domains: soil management, environmental control, and plant growth monitoring. Each of these areas relies on a diverse array of sensors, embedded system platforms, and communication network technologies. This review comprehensively explores the landscape of sensors and embedded system platforms deployed in smart farm. It delves into the intricate web of communication network technologies that enable seamless data exchange in smart farming environments. The study also scrutinizes the data processing technologies within greenhouses, highlighting the increasing utilization of cloud and big data computing methods for handling vast data sets. Notably, recent developments showcase the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to optimize the agricultural environment. AI-driven solutions are becoming increasingly pervasive in the realm of smart agriculture, enhancing productivity and sustainability.
