Abstract
Background & Objectives: Chiba Association of Medical Technologists (CAMT) also conducted the quality control survey (QC) since 1994. In recent years, a certified pathological technologist system was established, and standardization in the sample preparation process including fixation and dyeing is becoming more required. Here, we showed that an accuracy control, evaluation methods and future plans that were conducted the QC at CAMT in 2016. Methods: How to conducted the QC; we distributed formalin fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks to participating facilities. At each facility, each one of the HE stained specimen and the unstained specimen was prepared, and the collected specimen was evaluated. For unstained specimens, HE staining was carried out under the same conditions with an automatic staining apparatus for all specimens sliced at each facility, attached to a slide glass, and collected, with a target thickness of 4μm. Number of Participating Facilities; there were 45 facilities participating in this QC. Evaluation criteria; For HE staining, evaluation items and criteria were determined and each was scored, and the evaluation was carried out in four grades of ABCD according to the total points. For specimens sliced to 4μm, the thickness was measured using a confocal laser microscope after dyeing. The section thickness in routine work was measured and compared with the section thickness targeting the thickness of 4μm in 2015 and 2016. Conclusion: Standardization and quality control of specimen preparation process supporting diagnosis is important. Therefore, we think about that evaluation of HE stained specimen and measurement of sliced section thickness are useful.
